Whats a good thing to look for in a video card for a desktop|||Aside from the performance, I would also consider the physical size of the card. Some of the newer units can be rather large and take up nearly two expansion slots.

If you are upgrading integrated graphics you will likely have a slot available for the graphics hardware. Be sure to know what the bus type is. AGP, PCI, PCIxxxect...

You will also need to know if it requires its own power or will it run off of the motherboard. You may need to upgrade the power supply if you get a card that is high performance.

You should be aware of the output connections. There are VGA, DVI, HDMI. You might find that your monitor isn't compatible with fresh gear.|||heres two good places to find out how good a video card is.

newegg has better prices then most other places, and they have many user reviews for most products.|||Benchmarks. That's really the only thing that will tell you anything remotely meaningful about the video card (aside from the model number and stuff). Trying to compare two video cards from the specs alone is like comparing apples and oranges.
