Is there anything I need to know before buying a new video card for my desktop?

I just want to buy a video card for my desktop that has s-video output. Are there any specs about my computer that I need to look at before buying a new one? What is compatible with what?|||you need to visit your computer manufacturer's web site to determine what type of graphics interface slot your mother board has. Then just get one that matches the slot and your needs. Also, if going to a high-power card, you will need to upgrade your power supply to meet the additional demands.

$180-190- 9600gt

$400+- either the hd3870x2 or 9800x2
