What is the most current versatile video card for gaming?

My Intel card doesn't cut it. I have many games I can't play. Like Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2, Brothers in Arms, FEAR, and Panzers just to name a few. I have a Desktop Pent.4 3.06 Ghz with 512mb memory I plan to upgrade to 1024mb.|||First: The intel chipset is known to have compatibility issues as you have found out and the Intel 915 or Intel 945/950 are pretty awful (won't run or runs so slow it is useless). So, if you want things to be compatible you want Nvidia or ATI as they have a much better success rate.

Second: You have to figure out what graphics slot you have in your machine: Is it AGP or PCI-express. AGP is older and would limit your upgrade.

Third: Look at your Power supply. If it doesn't have enough juice those Nvidia 8800's are going to give you a lot of grief. They are powerful cards but I wouldn't even look at one without a 500-600watt power supply (and 300-400watt power supplies are common on P4's)

If you have AGP I would look at an Nvidia 7600gs or ATI x1650. There are better AGP cards but they get very expensive very fast.

If you have PCI express AND a big power supply, the Nvidia 8800 series is the most powerful video card out there right now. But expensive.

Personally I would strongly suggest you look at an ATI 3850 video card. Less power hungry than the Nvidia 8800's. Less expensive than them too, starting at $179. Plus lots of gaming power (more than the comparably priced 8600gtx and way more than older ATI cards).

Also consider that the fastest video cards are going to process video data faster than your Pentium 4 can keep up with so spending huge amounts of money isn't going to help as much as if you had a faster system.|||the most bang for the buck..... http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as…|||The Geforce 8800 card series. There are several different versions of this card which range from 'over-clocked edition' to 'ko edition' and 256mb to 768mb of on-board VRAM that is DDR3. The card price ranges from $279 - $700 and it delivers the best 3d support with its directX 10 shader models.

or if you can stretch to it the new 8800gts 512meg (not the 320 meg or the 640 meg which are old technology) its quicker but costs more.

but if you want to see something really sick (you asked what the latest thing is) have a look here
