What is a top noch video card for less then 250$?

Hi i want to run a new strategy game on my hp desktop i just got for xmas its called Shogun 2 total war if you know it.

Apperntly my ATI Hd 5450 sucks and i really love playing games at top levels

Can you give me the price, name and pros and cons of a video cad capable of playing new games at a medium to high level thanks so much.|||HD 5450 is an HTPC card, not a gaming card. For your budget, you could get either an excellent GTX 470 or an ATI HD6870. Both trade blows when it comes to comparable in performance, the GTX 470 can use more power and runs hotter, but has excellent driver and game support. the HD6870 uses less power, but is let down by wonky ATI catalyst drivers, which cause gray screens and video driver restore errors. My advise is to start lower and see if your needs are met, consider the mid level HD 5770 or the GTS 450 instead, if you are not satisfied with performance, move up a notch to GTX 460 or HD 6850. Remember that any GPU higher than hd5770 or GTS 450 will require an upgraded PSU that can support at least 600 watts.|||evga.com for $269

They are smooth and fast but they use and burn a lot of power and I've even had to upgrade the cooling system on one system that crashed when the CPU got overheated a couple times back in the days that I was a power gamer.

If you use a none Gamers computer, get a quad which is specked specifically as NVidia compatible, that lesson was hard learned.
