I currently have a Dell Vostro 200 desktop. It has 4 gb of ram, 2.2Ghz processor speed, 300 power supply, and 1TB hard drive. I need a video card that has a hdmi or dvi port on it that will be suitable for 3d animation program usage. I dont have that much money to spend. But what can i get to get the job done and enjoy it on a 40 inch lcd monitor?|||Get an HD 6670...it's less than $80 on Newegg.com

Plus, the most important part, it's OpenGL 4.1 compliant for working on your 3D models.
If you had money later on, get an Nvidia Quadro line of professional cards...they're designed specifically for people who do 3D animation / rendering stuff.

EDIT:
Nvidia Quadro and AMD FireGL cards aren't designed for games, which their other cards are. Therefore they have other things which make them better for 3D animation...
They're designed to work with OpenGL and OpenCL applications versus DirectX, and so would give better performance in those regards. Plus, they have other things that their consumer versions don't have, some have as much as 6GB of onboard memory for loading large amounts of textures for scene renderings, etc.|||I don't think you're going to do much better than this GeForce GTX 460 for $88 shipped with rebate. It's easy on power and extremely capable, very modern. If that's out of your price range I would recommend eBaying a Radeon HD 4850 1GB or a GeForces GTS 250 1GB. These cards are just a over half as powerful as the GTX 460, consume approximately the same amount of power, and run 50-60$. If you don't even want to spend that, get a Radeon HD 3850 on ebay, it should be like $20 or so, it's probably about half the speed of the 4850/GTS 250.
Generally graphics people use nVidia Quadro cards or ATI FireGL, so look and see if any of the cards I mentioned can be flashed with a bios from a Quadro (nvidia) or FireGL (ATI) bios, and you might be able to get a free higher end card. That said, I don't really know why those models are supposed to be better, I had a quadro in my old dell laptop, they're supposedly clocked down so they render with less imperfections instead of faster or something.
